A Force of Mentality: A New Year of Creative Direction vs. Mindset
Hello Creatives. Welcome back and Happy 2021!
Alongside this, I have been luckily active on my artistic route, between work and building personal projects. However, if I see someone even post basketball, I automatically become envious. I just miss playing.
But, anyways, let's hope 2021 is better than 2020. Weirdly, 2020 was a blessing in disguise for my career. I am grateful and lucky to be working remotely right now. Too many people are suffering currently so I remind myself of the little things. That those basic necessities are still important to have, as it could always be worse.
For this post, I wanted to discuss how 2021 is becoming a year of creative direction. Both positive and negative forms of thinking. What I mean by this is how we take last year and move forward into a new day. With the NBA back, I am happy to see players hooping again, but am also concerned as covid cases are still rising. I remember seeing comments about how the "NBA is cancelled" because of their beliefs and marketing positions on politics and human rights. Sometimes, when I see these kind of conversations, It makes me think of several things.
Again, back to the idea of creative direction. People are becoming more individually passionate in their "Yes" and "No" ideologies. But, it pains me that we don't see more of thinking based on perspectives. Just because it is a company, doesn't mean that they don't care to some degree. I think all companies have some level of compassion as human beings are still human beings. However, there is always room for ignorance to be present and that is not uncommon. We look at the financial wealth of someone and assume life is easier for them. That is not always the case. Even I think this way sometimes. It is only natural to assume such things because it has been conditioned in us to view each other in this way.
I have seen people who have all the privileges in the world, especially in sport. The way they act and placing themselves secretly on a higher friendship status. Unless you belong or you're one of their "people", you would be looked at as not on the same level. I am speaking from personal experiences, even with hints of emotional referencing, but I hope some of you could relate and see what I am saying.
Regardless, the reason I brought that up is because I have learned the reasoning why people end up being this way and not more-so overall friendly or humble. It could be the pressure they face daily from possibly family or other sources. There are moments when I just believe they are afraid to be their true authentic self. Therefore, maintaining this weird social power makes them feel better about who they are.
Playing this game and meeting different kinds of players, you really take in knowledge about the real-world in sports. Not just cause it's an activity, but you understand people more in general and just how they function. Don't get me wrong, I have met some of the greatest human beings from basketball. Not everyone is the same. You learn who you connect with and it becomes your own team.
As a result, the game of basketball becomes more and more relatable to real life everyday. When we all saw what happened in DC and people trying to stop the electoral vote in violent ways, I was somewhat speechless and hurt.
However, my inner mindset was not surprised. Because it is like the game of basketball. There is one winner and one loser. Blunt and Simple. Some games may end up being cheated. The refs could be favoring one team over the other. But, when you really think about it, that's life right? There is not always going to be clean-cut answers to the result. Not only that, but I also think what is the overall goal in your actions? What are you doing to make things better based on your own perspective without damaging others?
When people have time to disrespect or shout because they have supposably "higher knowledge" or "woke", in the end, what is the actual goal? What do you want the future to look like and how will you play a role in this? Will this lead to a happier, united society? This is the idea of creative direction. People making their choices based on their own creative ideas, rather than creative mindset. Also, to remind again that not everyone is the same when they communicate their beliefs. Some have interesting good points when trying to voice their thoughts. When they voice these opinions, they do so in a way that reflects the past pains and experiences that have occurred not only in their life, but for the lives of others. So when I see people protesting simply because they don't like who is going to become leader of the country, I can't see the bigger goal in doing that especially when that effects everyone here. We all face the repercussions. It exposed us. If this was the other way around, I still wouldn't see the point in making the same actions.
When the BLM protests occurred for human rights last year, the whole world was protesting in every country. Because it was not just a problem in America. Everyone had their own voice, their experiences, their culture. Therefore, the actions mentioned above are not in the same conversation as they aren't even on the same level of understanding. But, that is my belief and experiences. I have friends and family that have encountered unfair situations and I feel their voices matter.
So it is only right that it is a sign that we must do better, creatively. Finding that creative direction, balanced with mindset, and utilizing it with each others perspective. We all know we need change in the system. No matter what side you are on or beliefs. But, the more we do things for only personal gain, the more we go into this cycle of independent ideologies.
