Three Ways to Stay Active in Quarantine

Now that I am being told to kinda isolate myself by nearly everyone, I refuse to be that bored and rest too much. Honestly, now it's the time to do things you never had time for. Through our whole existence, we have survived through wars, diseases, apocalyptic type weather, and even the assumption of alien abduction. Things will get worse before it gets better. Just a matter of patience and staying active, for not only so you don't get bored, but for peace of mind and reducing anxiety.

There are multiple ways to stay active during this weird transition that the world is facing currently.

1: GO OUTSIDE (IF POSSIBLE)

Yes, unless advised otherwise, getting fresh air is key to the health of our bodies. Avoid large crowds, yes, but going to natural open spaces will help. Fewer people, more trees, more air. You can't just sleep and stay inside all day. It's not good, as your body will overall weaken if you stay immobilized. Whether it's a walk, jog, errands, or even to just drive around in your car, this helps stimulate your body and increase your mood due to a change of environment.

2: CREATE OR TRY SOMETHING NEW

Like I mentioned above, people are panicking about the virus. But, it can also be something to utilize in a positive way too. Now that you will have more time to yourself, you can actually use that time to learn something or even create stuff you never had time for. We are in the technology age and we have the power to do some great things here. Invent, Design, Create. There are many tools to use and, as for myself, I use this extra time to do some illustration and animation stuff. I might even start adding my own singing with my speed illustrations or animations. Trying new combinations. You never know until you try.

3: AT-HOME WORKOUTS

This is the third and final way to keep your brain going. In fact, it's the most important of the three because by working out, you help assist in your creative process, sweat, release hormones, and opens up your lungs for the outdoors. I cannot stress why not doing anything is not good. I recommend watching and following live or recorded workouts on Youtube. If you can find an empty park or space outside, and it's not too cold, workout outside. Another way is by downloading phone workout apps. My favorite one I use is FitOn. It's free and you can create your own workout schedule, based on your physique and what you have time for.

At home, I workout with dumbells and resistant bands. I do this three times a week and do abs twice a week. Having a balanced schedule helps keep your body from getting stiff. It's easy to stay lazy, but do that on your off days. If you don't have any equipment, that's okay. There are many forms of bodyweight workouts you can do, including yoga or strength training.

*BONUS

From a social perspective, video call dates and setting up group calls will help pass time as well. Also, it's always good to check up on people. Your relationships matter. If you are at university or still want to party, set up a party night via video call. It sounds lame, I know. But, it's better than nothing. Also, Netlfix dates or even online gaming can keep the humor going.

I hope these can help anyone see that we are in charge of how we get through this. The more positive we push through, the better things will get in time.
